Never Let Go

I have always known it's not my cup of tea. It never was. Nevertheless, I have always loved them, still do, and if I may dare utter words for the future, I will always... always love them.

Poems have always intrigued me. So, even if I wasn't blessed with a talent for poetry, I kept on reading poems. I would read poetry books, collect poems from various different sources, and sometimes recite them (The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes being my favorite) the way I supposed they were meant to be. My first inspiration to learn new languages came from poets who wrote in languages I had not known before.

Despite all that, I never gave it a try. I never even dared to attempt writing poems for the longest time. Having started my writing journey with stories and articles, I never even thought of writing something that could resemble a poem. Until that day.... a day in the November of 2010 when I wrote "Reflection" followed by "And the moon got lost" a few months later. It was not easy then. Now, 14 years later, almost after a lifeterm, it still is not.

Earlier starting seemed impossible, and now stopping has become impossible for me. Why? Because there's so much the poems do for me. I can bare my heart out and still not reveal a single thing. They speak of my feelings while hiding them in ways none can know. They overwhelm me in ways nobody has... well almost nobody. They drain me, they give me sleepless nights, they make me smile like nobody's business, and... and they make me be in Love.

So, I don't bother if they are my cup of tea or not. I don't bother if I have a talent for them or not. I don't bother if what my pen writes can even be called poetry. I REFUSE to bother. If not my cup of tea, they can be my cup of hot cocoa for all I care. But I am not letting them go. I am NEVER letting them go.

Dear Poetry, I hope you too never let me go. Love, always.
