A random day, perhaps!

I did not have a plan for that day. That is why I did not set up my morning alarm. However, I woke up a few minutes before 6 in the morning. That was strange, considering I was dead tired from the previous day and still I woke up refreshed. I was in Pondicherry and it was day 1!

I sprang out of my bed and looked outside the window. Probably most would not call it a “perfect sunrise time”!
Then again, perfection is just a state of mind.
It was not late enough, and the view was still breathtaking. I moved out of my room to the beach (I just had to cross the road to reach the beach). The smell of the sea in the warmth of the infant sun can elevate anybody’s spirits. The serenity of the water dazzling in the golden sun was amazing! As the sun started its ascent on to the sky, I returned to my room, prepared myself for the day and moved out.

It was around 7 in the morning. I decided to go to Baker’s street for breakfast and set on foot for that. The streets were calm and beautiful. Neatly aligned colonial era buildings lined the streets in an elegant manner. Somewhere on those paths, I met a lady. I smiled at her and she reciprocated. We exchanged greetings. We did not have an elaborate conversation, but that gesture brightened up my day. I hope it did the same for her. One doesn’t need big things to be happy. Happiness can be discovered in the smallest of gestures.
It’s strange how small gestures work like miracles.
I had a sumptuous breakfast and then I started exploring the city. Most of the places I went to can be categorized as the general sight seeing places. One may get loads of information on those places. What made the first half of the day memorable for me, was the way I visited those places. I did not hire any vehicle, nor did I list down the sequence of visiting some of these places. I just walked and used a navigation app now and then to see which places appeal to me. The bookshop, the library of commerce, and some random streets are few such places I visited, which are not frequented by tourists.

One of my rituals (if it can be called that), is to visit any random store, preferably a convenience/grocery store and purchase something that generally residents buy, and tourists do not. It makes me feel that I belong to that place, it lets me soak in the vibe of the place. I finished that ritual on the first half of my day 1 and returned to my room to freshen up. I headed for lunch afterwards. Post lunch? Well, may be that’s a story for another time. The first half was so full of vigor, excitement, and revelations, perhaps mere my words wouldn’t do justice to the experience. It was what it was, because I enjoyed each moment of it, without any expectations.
After all, that’s what life teaches us. To live every moment of it!
